David Bailis is a multi-talented musician best known for his skills as a guitarist and bassist. Equally accomplished as a composer, producer and educator, David has showcased his musical talents throughout the world, performing to sold out crowds at a range of venues from Carnegie Hall to Bonnaroo to the legendary Red Rocks Ampitheater.
David is currently a touring member of the renowned electro funk band Pimps of Joytime. He handles electric bass, keyboards, sampler/electronics and background vocals in the band. He was member of Grammy-nominated singer/emcee and Fugees alum John Forte’s band and David is musical director and guitarist for Sierre Leone hiphop superstar Bajah and the Dry Eye Crew, who is now based in NYC.
In addition, David has collaborated, recorded, and performed with many great artists including C money (Slightly Stoopid) and Players Inc, Philip Glass, The Roots, Res, Talib Kweli/ Idle Warship, Rudy Gomis (Orchestra Baobab), The Superpowers, Peoples Champs, Swiss Chris, G Love and Ceelo of Gnarls Barkley.
David is active with his own trio DB3 which has featured some of NYC’s most talented and exciting musicians. The current lineup along side David on guitar is Swiss Chris on drums and Eric Lane on Keyboards/Synth bass.
David is also active in the worlds of film and theater. He played guitar and acted in the 2016 production od The Day Before Heaven, which debuted at Kumble Theater in Brooklyn. He composed all the music and performed on his original score for the film- ‘The Inspector, the Lady and the Thief’ which was released in 2014. He was musical director and composer for the Off-Broadway show ‘Wanted’ and composed and performed for the score for the film ‘Bully’, which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary of 2012. He also composed all the music and performed for the short film ‘Bridge to Bourne’. David’s original composition ‘Cold World’ was chosen by Christoph Faulhaber for his documentary ‘Play > Movie – Every Picture is an Empty Picture’ which was featured at the exhibition ‘Smart New World’ at the Kunstalle Dusseldorf in Germany.
A graduate of Berklee College of Music, David has been awarded numerous accolades and received enthusiastic attention from the music press, including multiple features in the New York Times.
David is based in Brooklyn, NY and when not on tour can be found performing and teaching in New York City.
